The framework I chose was Neocities, as the level of creativity mixed with the early 2000s website aesthetic grabbed my attention.
Setting up my account was a seamless process - I entered my information and was prompted to get started. I was given a directory of files that would be used to build the site.
I was instructed to enter the provided index.html file and was given a relatively simple IDE to work with. I found the IDE helpful with its error highlighting.
I was also given a prebuilt outline to work with, including some simple tags. After editing and saving this site it was automatically hosted through a URL provided at the top of the site.
This is what the IDE looks like.
There weren’t too many difficulties with Neocities - I was able to edit and host this simple site within minutes. The only slight difficulty was that file upload was not an instantly seamless process, and the simplicity of the environment may be offputting to some.
It would also be beneficial if the IDE had slightly more options for personalization.
Overall, I really appreciated the Neocities framework. It was interesting scrolling through what other people were able to create, and how they were able to innovate so much on such a simple and robust environment!
It is good to know how accessible creating a site is, and the automatic hosting service it provides is a massive benefit as well.
